Obituary of Sandra Louise Sampiere

SAMPIERE- Sandra L. Sampiere, age 72 of Derby, died peacefully, after a long illness, on May 23, 2014 at Griffin Hospital, surrounded by her family. Born in Derby on February 22, 1942, she was the daughter of the late John and Alice Kaiser Checkley. Mrs. Sampiere was an Ansonia resident most of her life and a 1960 graduate of Ansonia High School. She worked in the stock and distribution department of Griffin Hospital for 15 years, until her retirement in 2000. Mrs. Sampiere was an avid fan of the NY Yankees & the UCONN basketball teams, a member of the Derby Senior Center where she participated in the crocheting club and was a member of the Charters Hose Ladies Aux. She will be long remembered for her special love for her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her devoted children, Kimberly Sampiere and her companion, Eduardo Del Monte of North Branford and Peter S. Sampiere, Jr. and his wife Cheryl of Seymour; a brother, John R. Checkley and his wife Ann Marie of Ansonia; a sister-in-law, Nanda Checkley of Ansonia; cherished grandchildren, Melissa and Brian Francione of North Branford and Peter and Victoria Sampiere of Seymour; a great-grandson, Braydon Cavallaro; her best friend for the past thirty years Maryanne Camilini;her lifelong friend Ralph Tallberg; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins whom she remained close to throughout her life. She was predeceased by brothers, Donald and Robert Checkley. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at 9:00 AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia. A Blessing and Liturgy of the Word will take place at 10:00 AM in the Church of the Assumption, 61 North Cliff St., Ansonia. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia.
