Obituary of Lawrence S. Dorosh

DOROSH- Lawrence “Larry” “Uncs” S. Dorosh, age 88 of Derby, died peacefully on May 8, 2014, at Yale-New Haven Hospital, surrounded by his family. Born in Sturges, PA, he was the son of the late Walter and Mary Schlachta Dorosh. Mr. Dorosh was raised in Sturges, PA, and graduated from the Archbald High School. In the 1940’s Mr. Dorosh moved to CT and has since been a resident of Ansonia and Derby. He was a proud and decorated U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII. Mr. Dorosh served in the Underwater Demolition Team #25 as frogman during the Normandy Invasion and also served in duty stations NTS Sampson, NY, NAAB Salcombe, Devon, England, 7th Beach Battalion, Naval Combat Demolition Training and Experimental Base, Maui, HI. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Navy Presidential Unit Citation, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 2 Stars, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. Mr. Dorosh was a member of the American Legion, Post 10 of Seymour, the VFW, Post 45 of Bridgeport and was a Communicant of St. Michael Church, Derby. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Dorosh worked as a foreman for the American Brass Co., previously employed by the B.F. Goodrich Co. He is survived by his beloved brother, Adolf “Mizue” Dorosh of Derby; devoted niece and nephews, Diane (Jeffrey) Lawlor of Ansonia, Dennis Kisyk of Naugatuck, John (Kristen) Dorosh of Oxford and Greg (Lisa) Dorosh of Seymour; as well as many other nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Gertrude Kisyk and brothers, John, Stephen, Stanley and Leonard Dorosh. Funeral services will take place on Monday, May 12, 2014 at 8:30 AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 9:30 AM in St. Michael Church, 75 Derby Avenue, Derby. Interment with Military Honors will be held on May 13, 2014 in St. Michael Cemetery, Blakely, PA. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, May 11, 2014, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
